Tree Service in Buenaventura Lakes, FL

BVL is a grid of ponds, canals and single-family streets between Osceola Parkway and Florida's Turnpike, and much of it sits low. We trim and remove the oaks and palms that grow along those banks, and we help homeowners sort out what Hurricane Ian left behind.

Buenaventura Lakes Tree Service for Pond-Side Homes

Buenaventura Lakes first showed up in the 1990 census as its own place, and today about 30,000 people live in its roughly five and a half square miles. Locals just call it BVL. It is unincorporated Osceola County, northeast of the City of Kissimmee, with Florida's Turnpike on the west, Osceola Parkway along the north and Meadow Woods across the Orange County line. Buenaventura Boulevard and Florida Parkway carry most of the traffic inside it.

What sets BVL apart for tree work is water. Small ponds and drainage swales run behind a large share of the homes, and the old Osceola Golf Club off Competition Drive, which opened in 1983 and closed in 2010, has been turned largely into stormwater retention. Trees here grow on banks, berms and filled lots that were all graded around keeping water moving.

BVL Tree Removal and Low, Saturated Ground

Pond banks are hard on trees. One side of the root system sits in wet soil most of the summer, the other side is under a lawn or a driveway, and the tree leans toward the light over the water. Laurel oaks and water oaks on those banks tend to grow lopsided, and when the bank softens after a week of afternoon storms, they can slide or tip toward the pond or back toward the house.

BVL took heavy flooding during Hurricane Ian in 2022. County officials listed portions of Buenaventura Lakes and the Pebble Pointe neighborhood among the extreme flooding areas, and deputies used airboats to reach residents in Pebble Pointe. Flooded roots can fail slowly, so a tree that came through Ian standing can still decline. Common species in BVL yards are laurel oak, live oak, slash pine, sabal and queen palms, crape myrtle, and Brazilian pepper that seeds itself into pond edges and fence lines.

Buenaventura Lakes Neighborhoods and Corridors We Serve

  • Buenaventura Boulevard: the main spine past BVL Community Park at 419 Buenaventura Blvd, where front-yard oaks reach over sidewalks and the road.
  • Florida Parkway: homes around the Robert Guevara Community Center at 501 Florida Parkway, many with backyard ponds and palms along the bank.
  • Competition Drive and the former golf course: lots that back onto old fairways now used for retention, with pines and oaks at the edges.
  • Pebble Pointe: hit hard by Ian flooding; we check root health and lean on trees that sat in standing water.
  • Eagle Bay and Cypress Lakes: pond-front streets where cypress, red maple and laurel oak line the water.
  • Lakeside and BVL Village: older single-family blocks with mature shade trees close to roofs and fences.
  • Osceola Parkway and Turnpike edge: homes on the north and west sides where wind comes across open highway corridors.

Tree Trimming in Buenaventura Lakes: Common Jobs

Palm work makes up a big share of BVL calls. Queen palms drop heavy fronds and fruit stalks, and sabal palms need old boots and seed stalks cleaned out before hurricane season. Oak jobs usually mean pruning limbs away from roofs, pool screens and satellite dishes, or reducing weight on a pond-side tree that has started to lean. We also clear Brazilian pepper thickets that swallow back fences, and grind the stumps so they do not resprout.

Electric service in BVL is commonly provided by the Kissimmee Utility Authority, though utility boundaries in unincorporated Osceola do not always follow neighborhood lines. If a tree is into the lines, call your utility first. We will confirm which one serves your address when we come out.

Osceola County Tree Rules for BVL Homeowners

Because BVL is unincorporated, Osceola County's Land Development Code applies rather than the City of Kissimmee's. The county code ties tree removal to development permits, land clearing authorization or a tree removal permit unless an exemption applies, and how that plays out on an existing single-family lot depends on the situation. We check it on every estimate. Some BVL subdivisions also have deed restrictions or an HOA, and trees near ponds may sit on common or drainage tracts that the owner does not control. Before cutting anything on a bank, we look at the plat with you so the work stays on your side of the line, and we leave the pond itself untouched unless the tract owner has signed off.

State law helps when the tree is a hazard. Florida Statute 163.045 bars a county from requiring a permit, fee or replanting for removing a tree on residential property once an ISA certified arborist or Florida licensed landscape architect documents that it is a danger to persons or property. Our tree permit article explains how that works locally.

Buenaventura Lakes Tree Removal Prices

BVL lots are mostly modest in size, which keeps a lot of jobs in the lower ranges. Trimming a palm usually costs $90 to $300 depending on height and species, and pruning a shade tree runs $200 to $950. Removing a small tree under about 30 feet often falls between $350 and $900, while a pond-bank oak in the 30 to 60 foot range is more like $900 to $1,900 because the crew cannot set equipment on soft ground. Grinding the stump afterward is typically $100 to $450. Storm work after hours carries a 25 to 50 percent premium, and we say so before we start.

BVL Tree Services From Removal to Stump Grinding

For a leaning oak on a pond bank we offer full tree removal with rigging. Queen and sabal palms get routine palm tree trimming. After a storm our storm damage cleanup crews clear limbs from roofs and pool cages and photograph everything first for your insurer. We finish with stump grinding so the yard can be mowed flat. If you want to get ahead of the season, ask about hurricane tree prep.

BVL borders Meadow Woods to the north, and we work just as often in Hunters Creek across the Turnpike and in downtown Kissimmee and along Lake Toho to the south.

Questions

Questions About Tree Work in Buenaventura Lakes

No. Buenaventura Lakes is an unincorporated community in Osceola County, even though mail goes to Kissimmee 34743. That means county rules govern tree removal, not the city's. Some BVL subdivisions also have their own HOA or deed restrictions. We look up which rules apply to your address before we quote the job.

It depends on the plat. In much of BVL the pond and its bank belong to a drainage tract, an HOA or the county, not the homeowner. If a tree on that land threatens your house, you may need the owner's permission or a request to them. We can help you figure out where your line is and who to contact.

Not necessarily. Many pond-bank oaks grow leaning toward the light and stay stable for decades. The warning signs are a lean that is getting worse, cracked or heaving soil on the side away from the water, exposed roots, or fungus at the base. We check those on site and tell you whether pruning to reduce weight will do or the tree should come down.

Most palm trimming in Buenaventura Lakes runs $90 to $300 per palm. Short sabal palms are at the low end. Tall queen palms with heavy fruit stalks, or Washingtonia palms above 30 feet, cost more because they need climbing or a lift. We price each palm on the written estimate so you can choose which to do now.

Yes. Pebble Pointe and other low parts of BVL held water for days after Ian. Saturated roots can rot and loosen the soil, and damage may show up a year or more later as dieback, thinning or a new lean. We inspect the base, root flare and canopy, and we tell you honestly if the tree can wait.

We do. Brazilian pepper is an invasive species that spreads fast through BVL backyards and pond banks. Cutting it alone usually leads to resprouting, so we cut, haul off and grind the stumps. If the plants sit on a drainage tract you do not own, the tract owner should approve the work first.

Call your electric utility first, because work near energized lines is theirs to make safe. Much of BVL is served by the Kissimmee Utility Authority, but boundaries vary in unincorporated Osceola County, so check your bill. Once the line is clear, we handle the rest of the tree and the cleanup.

Our emergency line runs 24/7 for trees on houses, cars or pool cages. After a big storm we sort calls by danger, so a tree through a roof comes before a limb on the lawn. We photograph the damage for your insurance before we cut, and we give a price before work starts.
