Poinciana Tree Removal Across Two Counties and Many Villages

Poinciana is a census-designated place of about 69,000 people that spans the line between Osceola and Polk counties south of Kissimmee. Gulf American Corporation planned it in the 1960s as a retirement community, the first homes went up in 1973, and Avatar Holdings, later AV Homes, carried it forward. The community covers roughly 47,000 acres and is organized into numbered villages under the Association of Poinciana Villages. Solivita, a gated 55-plus community once counted as Village 10, left the APV in 2011 and runs under its own community development districts.

Getting around, you know the roads by heart: Pleasant Hill Road coming down from Kissimmee, Cypress Parkway through the commercial center at Doverplum Avenue, Poinciana Boulevard, Marigold Avenue, and the Poinciana Parkway toll road, SR 538, which opened in 2016 to give residents a quicker route toward I-4. The SunRail line ends at Poinciana's station, which opened in 2018.

Poinciana Trees on Low, Wet Ground

Poinciana sits in the upper Kissimmee basin, and the ground shows it. Much of the land is flat pine flatwoods and wetlands draining toward Reedy Creek on the east and Lake Marion Creek along the Polk-Osceola line. The Lake Marion Creek Wildlife Management Area protects thousands of acres of that wet country to the south. Sandy soil, a high summer water table and lots of standing water in the rainy season define almost every yard.

Older villages were cut out of pine woods decades ago, so many lots still carry tall slash pines, laurel oaks and water oaks that are now 40 to 50 years old or more. Laurel and water oaks at that age are prone to trunk decay and limb drop. Pines in wet ground tip over in storms. Newer sections carry planted live oaks and palms. Solivita is known for preserved oak hammocks around its golf courses, including Stonegate Golf Club.

Poinciana Villages and Corridors We Serve

  • Village 1 - one of the Osceola County villages, with established lots, carports and mature oaks crowding rooflines.
  • Villages 2 and 5 - Osceola-side neighborhoods with tall slash pines close to houses and fences.
  • Villages 3 and 4 - on the Polk County side, where Polk's land development rules apply instead of Osceola's.
  • Solivita - the gated 55-plus community with oak hammocks and two golf courses, run under its own districts and design rules.
  • Cypress Parkway and Doverplum Avenue - the commercial center, where we handle trees on commercial lots and along buffers.
  • Pleasant Hill Road and Poinciana Boulevard corridors - homes and acreage along the main routes north toward Kissimmee.

Storm Cleanup in Poinciana and the Jobs We See Most

Removal of aging laurel and water oaks is the top call in Poinciana's older villages, followed closely by pines leaning over roofs. When a tropical system brings days of rain, the ground turns soft and trees fall that would have stood in a dry year. Storm cleanup here often means trees across driveways, fences and carports. Between storms, we prune oaks off roofs, trim palms, grind old stumps and clear overgrown back lots where Brazilian pepper has taken over.

Poinciana Tree Rules: County First, Then the Association

Which rules apply depends on which side of the line you live on. Osceola-side villages fall under the Osceola County Land Development Code, Article 4.8 of which governs tree removal and clearing. Polk-side villages follow Polk County's code, which is written separately. On top of the county, most homes are subject to deed restrictions enforced by the Association of Poinciana Villages and its village associations, and Solivita has its own design review. Some of these require approval before a tree comes down or a replacement goes in.

Florida Statute 163.045 applies in both counties: if an ISA certified arborist or Florida licensed landscape architect documents that a tree on your residential lot poses an unacceptable risk, the county cannot require a permit, fee or replacement. Association rules are a separate matter. We could not confirm every association's current procedure, so we check the county and association requirements for your address on every estimate.

Power Lines and Poinciana Electric Service

Duke Energy serves much of Poinciana in both counties, though addresses near the edges may fall under a different provider, so check your bill. Pines and oaks on service lines are a common storm problem here. Call the utility first if anything is on a wire.

Poinciana Tree Removal Cost

A decayed laurel oak in the 40 to 60 foot range beside a block home in one of the older villages commonly runs $900 to $1,900 to remove. Tall pines over roofs, or oaks that need a crane because nothing can be dropped, can reach $1,900 to $3,800 or more, with crane time typically adding $600 to $1,800. Storm work done after hours carries a 25 to 50 percent premium. Stump grinding usually costs $100 to $450 a stump. We give you a flat written price before we start.

Questions

Questions About Tree Work in Poinciana

Check your property tax bill or look up your address with the Osceola or Polk County property appraiser. Villages 1, 2 and 5 are on the Osceola side, while Villages 3 and 4 are in Polk, but confirm with your parcel record. The county decides which tree code applies, so we look it up before every Poinciana estimate.

It may. Most Poinciana homes are subject to deed restrictions enforced through the APV and its village associations, and some exterior changes need approval. Solivita has its own separate design review. Because procedures change, we check the current requirements for your village on every estimate and tell you what, if anything, you need to submit.

Many lots in the older villages kept laurel and water oaks that are now 40 to 50 years old or more. Both species grow fast and decline early, often with hidden trunk decay. Add sandy, waterlogged soil in the rainy season, and a tree that looks fine can drop a major limb or tip over. A quick inspection tells you whether yours is a risk.

Yes. Solivita is a gated community, so we coordinate entry and follow its design review and contractor rules. Much of the work there involves pruning oaks, palm care and occasional removal of declining trees near homes. Trees in common areas and along the golf courses are handled by the community, not individual homeowners.

Get everyone out of the damaged area and call our 24/7 line. If a power line is involved, call the utility first and stay clear. We photograph the damage for your insurance claim before cutting, then lift the tree off carefully to avoid more damage. We can work with your adjuster on documentation.

They can be, especially in saturated soil. Slash pines in wet ground have shallow roots and can tip over in tropical storm winds. Lightning-struck or beetle-infested pines are a bigger concern because they dry out and drop limbs. If a pine leans toward your house or has browning needles, have it looked at before hurricane season.

It depends on how much is down and where. A single fallen oak across a driveway might fall in the normal medium-tree range of $900 to $1,900, while a tree on a roof needing careful lifting costs more. After-hours emergency work adds 25 to 50 percent. Once the weather settles, scheduled cleanup is priced at our regular rates.

Yes. Brazilian pepper spreads fast along back fences, ditches and empty lots here. We cut it down, chip it and treat or grind the stumps so it does not regrow from the roots. Larger overgrown areas can be priced as light land clearing. It is an invasive species, so removing it is a good idea.
